GM Reports High Demand for 2006 Pontiac Solstice and 2007 Saturn Sky Roadsters

May 25, 2006 on 1:05 am | In Car News |

General Motors may build more Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters, Automotive News reported, citing Robert Lutz, GM’s vice chairman and global vice president of product development.

With orders for the low-slung two-seater backed up for several months, Lutz said, “It’s become clear that we need considerably more capacity… we are certainly studying a capacity increase.”

Demand for the Pontiac Solstice is at 35,000 units a year, Lutz told Automotive News. The Sky roadster is sold out through the end of the year and in some regions well into next year, Jill Lajdziak, Saturn’s general manager, said at a recent press event.

GM builds the Solstice, Sky and Opel GT at its Wilmington, Delaware plant. Opel has not yet launched the GT.
