Ohio Company Resurrects Troubled Electric Car
May 22, 2006 on 1:38 am | In Car News | No CommentsThe ill-fated three-wheeler formerly known as the Corbin Sparrow is back, with a new owner, a different name, revamped mechanicals and a promise the old car’s myriad problems are history.
“We took out everything people hated,” says spokesman John Dages.
Called the Myers Motors NmG Electric Vehicle—NmG is short for “No more Gas”—the single-passenger all-electric car is the result of an 18-month effort to fix problems with the Sparrow. Failures in the Sparrow led to bankruptcy proceedings for the former owner, Corbin Motors of Hollister, California.
Ohio entrepreneur Dana Myers bought assets of the bankrupt company in 2004 with the idea of putting the electric car back on the road to success.

Bugatti Plans 950-HP Mega-Sedan
May 21, 2006 on 2:00 am | In Car News | No CommentsAMSTERDAM, Holland - According to respected Dutch automobile biweekly Autovisie, Bugatti will unleash a mega-luxury sedan with 950 horsepower. This ultimate Bugatti is reportedly coming around 2010.
Sales of Ferdinand Piëch’s megalomaniac dream car, the Bugatti Veyron, are already exceeding expectations, which has led to plenty of speculation about the company’s next act. Earlier reports had suggested a more subdued sports car, but Autovisie’s drawing shows a Maybach-thwarting sedan with a claimed 950-hp engine.
When Volkswagen took over control of Bugatti, two concept cars were presented in quick succession: the EB118 and the EB218. Both were powered by 18-cylinder engines and had styling similar to that of the planned sedan.
However, sales of these gargantuan vehicles have been less rosy than manufacturers wish, with both the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Maybach failing to achieve planned volumes.
Porsche Cayman S nominated “World Performance Car” of 2006

The mid-engined coupe from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, which was introduced to the market last November, has been nominated “World Performance Car” of 2006. With this accolade, awarded on the occasion of the New York International Auto Show, the Cayman S left an impressive line-up of 29 competitors standing.
In the eyes of the jury, which comprised 46 international trade journalists, Porsche Cayman S impressed with its “perfect combination of outstanding handling, looks and performance.” With the Cayman S, Porsche has very successfully filled the gap between the Boxster and the 911 Carrera. “The 295-bhp coupe combines the balance of the mid-engined Porsche Boxster with the rigidity of the 911 coupe, while the sonorous flat-six engine delivers the uninterrupted power of a middle-weight,” said the jury in its verdict.
This enthusiasm for Porsche Cayman S, the manual version of the car which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 275 km/h, can also be seen among customers. In the first four months since its market launch, almost 6,000 vehicles were delivered worldwide. In Germany, the Cayman S costs 58,529 Euros, including sales tax and country-specific requirements.
